What is EQ?
Emotional Quotient (EQ) or Emotional Intelligence is defined as:
Research in Emotional Intelligence originated to understand why some individuals with high IQ were not necessarily successful in the workplace, or in life in general, and to gain further understanding of the impact of other skills and competencies on workplace and personal success. Emotional Intelligence has been credited with up to 85% of success in leaders.
Emotionally intelligent people are:
- Self-aware – they understand their strengths and weaknesses, and their view of themselves is aligned to that of others. They are able to accurately label their emotions.
- In control of their emotions – they are aware of their emotions and understand how and when to use/express them.
- Empathetic – they are able to accurately read the emotions of others and respond appropriately to them.
- Achievement-oriented – they maintain high levels of internal motivation. They are resilient in the face of life’s inevitable challenges and setbacks; maintaining an optimistic and positive mindset.
- Relationship-focussed – they actively build and maintain strong and trusting relationships. They are transparent in their dealings with others.
This is the important bit. Unlike IQ (which peaks at around 17), our EQ develops throughout our life. The good news is that the development of EQ can be accelerated with the proper support, training, and coaching. But first, we need an accurate way of measuring it: the EQ-i®.
What is the EQ360?
The EQ360 is a multi-rater version of the EQ-i 2.0 assessment. It is recognised as one of the most scientifically valid measures of emotional intelligence. Developed by Dr Reuven Bar-On, it measures and reports on 5 realms, and 15 subscales, proven to affect personal, workplace, and leadership success.
The EQ360 measures the same 15 subscales as the EQ-i, and combines your own perceptions of your EQ with those of others. You are able to seek feedback from your manager, peers, direct reports, family & friends, and other colleagues/stakeholders.
